A LETTER TO GET SOMEONE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT

Jesus had 12 guys he traveled with.He told them after walking with them for 3 years that he was going to go away.They were panicked because they had left their families to follow Jesus.They had given up jobs and everything, and now Jesus is leaving.So Jesus explains to them that the Holy Spirit would come upon them, live inside them, and remain with them forever.That he would empower them, tell them their future, and give them the ability to do miracles.So here are some scriptures: Here Jesus tells them to wait till the Holy Spirit comes so they can have power:

Luke 24:49 And behold, I will send forth upon you what My Father has promised; but remain in the city [Jerusalem] until you are clothed with power from on high.

Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses.

Here Jesus tell this disciples who the Holy Spirit is

John 14:26 But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will cause you to recall (will remind you of, bring to your remembrance) everything I have told you.

He will counsel us, strengthen us, teach us etc.

John 16:13 But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth). For He will not speak His own message [on His own authority]; but He will tell whatever He hears [from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him], andHe will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future].

This is sooo Cool he tells us our future.When I was 17 years old the Holy Spirit showed me that I would go to other countries and miracles would happen.He was right.

John 16:14 He will honor and glorify Me, because He will take of (receive, draw upon) what is Mine and will reveal (declare, disclose, transmit) it to you.

15 Everything that the Father has is Mine. That is what I meant when I said that He [the Spirit] will take the things that are Mine and will reveal (declare, disclose, transmit) it to you.

So the disciples after Jesus died on the cross and rose again and was taken into heaven went to wait for power like Jesus had told them. So here is what happened:

Acts 2:1 AND WHEN the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all assembled together in one place,

2 When suddenly there came a sound from heaven like the rushing of a violent tempest blast, and it filled the whole house in which they were sitting.

3 And there appeared to them tongues resembling fire, which were separated and distributed and which settled on each one of them.

4 And they wereall filled (diffused throughout their souls) with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other (different, foreign) languages (tongues), as the Spirit kept giving them clear and loud expression [in each tongue in appropriate words].

5 Now there were then residing in Jerusalem Jews, devout and God-fearing men from every country under heaven.

6 And when this sound was heard, the multitude came together and they were astonished and bewildered, because each one heard them [the apostles] speaking in his own [particular] dialect.

Weird huh?They heard a thunder and whoosh it came in the house and they begin to speak in tongues. Well why would we want to speak in tongues?Scott sometimes we do not know what to do in a situation.We dont even know what to pray.So when we pray in tongues we pray directly to God a perfect prayer.We will get direction as we pray in tongues.The Holy Spirit reveals his will to us.

1 Cor 14:2 Forone who speaks in an [unknown] tongue speaks not to men but to God,for no one understands or catches his meaning, because in the [Holy] Spirit he utters secret truths and hidden things [not obvious to the understanding].

Rom 8:26 So toothe [Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayerto offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance.

Jude 20 But you,beloved, build yourselves up [founded] on your most holy faith[make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], praying in the Holy Spirit;

So after the disciples were speaking in tongues they wanted everyone to do this so they went and told people about it.

Acts 10:44 Even as Peter was saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who had heard the message.

45 The Jewish believers who came with Peter were amazed that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out upon the Gentiles, too. 46 And there could be no doubt about it,for they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.

A lot of Christians do not know about the Holy Spirit or they think miracles were only for the disciples. But the Holy Spirit is alive and full of power.So Paul a guy who murdered etc. had an experience with Jesus.He became a Christian and got filled with the Holy Spirit .He spoke in tongues, did miracles and when to tell other Christians that there was the Holy Spirit.These Christians loved Jesus but they didnt know about the Holy Spirit.

Acts 19:2 And he asked them,Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed [on Jesus as the Christ]?And they said,No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.

3 And he asked, Into what [baptism] then were you baptized? They said, Into John's baptism.

4 And Paul said, John baptized with the baptism of repentance, continually telling the people that they should believe in the one Who was to come after him, that is, in Jesus [having a conviction full of joyful trust that He is Christ, the Messiah, and being obedient to Him].

5 On hearing this they were baptized [again, this time] in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And as Paullaid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them; and they spoke in [foreign, unknown] tongues (languages) and prophesied.

Other examples of people receiving the Holy Spirit thru the laying on of hands

Acts 8:15 And they came down and prayed for them that the Samaritans might receive the Holy Spirit;

16 For He had not yet fallen upon any of them, but they had only been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.

17Then [the apostles] laid their hands on them one by one, and they received the Holy Spirit.

HANDS DEF -through the idea of a channel, meaning a storm (as pouring rain); by implication, the rainy season, i.e. winter: - tempest, foul weather, winter.

Jesus did all his miracles because the Holy Spirit was with him

Acts 10:38 How God anointed and consecrated Jesus of Nazareth with the [Holy] Spirit and with strength and ability and power; how He went about doing good and, in particular, curing all who were harassed and oppressed by [the power of] the devil, for God was with Him.

Christianity would be mere religion without the power of the Holy Spirit.Scott this power is available to you and is for you.With the Holy Spirit you can clearly hear the voice of God.You can do miracles, and give the comfort to others. Its for anyone who has received Jesus.To receive Jesus is easy.Just call on the name of the lord.If you believe that Jesus came died, and was raised, thats all it takes.Then the gift of the Holy Spirit can be yours.

Mark 16:17 And these attestingsigns will accompany those who believe: in My name they will drive out demons;they will speak in new languages;

18 They will pick up serpents; and [even] if they drink anything deadly, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will get well.

Mark 1:8 (Msg)I'm baptizing you here in the river, turning your old life in for a kingdom life. His baptisma holy baptism by the Holy Spiritwill change you from the inside out."

Luke 4:18 (Msg) "God's Spirit is on me; he's chosen me to preach the Message of good news to the poor,Sent me to announce pardon to prisoners andrecovery of sight to the blind, To set the burdened and battered free,

Luke 10:21 (Msg)At that, Jesus rejoiced, exuberant in the Holy Spirit. "I thank you, Father, Master of heaven and earth,that you hid these things from the know-it-alls and showed them to these innocent newcomers. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way.

Acts 4:31 (Msg)While they were praying, the place where they were meeting trembled and shook. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak God's Word with fearless confidence.

Romans 8:2 (Msg)A new power is in operation. The Spirit of life in Christ, like a strong wind,has magnificently cleared the air, freeing you from a fated lifetime of brutal tyrannyat the hands of sin and death.

Romans 8:16 (Msg) God'sSpirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are.We know who he is, and we know who we are: Father and children.

Romans 15:13 (Msg) Oh! May the God of green hope fill you up with joy, fill you up with peace, so that your believing lives,filled with the life-giving energy of the Holy Spirit, will brim over with hope!

Titus 3:5 (Msg)he saved us from all that. It was all his doing; we had nothing to do with it. Hegave us a good bath, and we came out of it new people, washed inside and out by the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 5:18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery;but everbe filled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit.

Scott, God wants us drunk and high but with the Holy Spirit.Scott read this letter over and we shall talk again.I will not push anything on you, but this is the greatest thing in this life.Its a gift.Jesus did not come to take life from you but to give it to you in abundance.

GIFT VERSES PRAYER TONGUE

1 Cor 12:7 But to each one is giventhe manifestation of the [Holy] Spirit[the evidence, the spiritual illumination of the Spirit] for good and profit.

8 To one is given in and through the [Holy] Spirit [the power to speak] a message of wisdom, and to another [the power to express] a word of knowledge and understanding according to the same [Holy] Spirit;

9 To another [wonder-working] faith by the same [Holy] Spirit, to another the extraordinary powers of healing by the one Spirit;

10 To another the working of miracles, to another prophetic insight ( the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose); to another the ability to discern and distinguish between [the utterances of true] spirits [and false ones], to another various kinds of [unknown] tongues , to another the ability to interpret [such] tongues .

11 All these [gifts, achievements, abilities] are inspired and brought to pass by one and the same [Holy] Spirit, Who apportions to each person individually [exactly] as He chooses.

12 For just as the body is a unity and yet has many parts, and all the parts, though many, form [only] one body, so it is with Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

1 Cor 12:28So God has appointed some in the church[for His own use]: first apostles (special messengers); second prophets (inspired preachers and expounders); third teachers; then wonder-workers; then those with ability to heal the sick; helpers; administrators; [speakers in] different (unknown) tongues .

29 Are all apostles (special messengers)? Are all prophets (inspired interpreters of the will and purposes of God)? Are all teachers? Do all have the power of performing miracles?

30 Do all possess extraordinary powers of healing? Do all speak with tongues ? Do all interpret?

31 But earnestly desire and zealously cultivate the greatest and best gifts and graces (the higher gifts and the choicest graces). And yet I will show you a still more excellent way [one that is better by far and the highest of them all love].

1 Cor 14:5 NowI wish that you might all speak in [unknown] tongues , but more especially [I want you] to prophesy(to be inspired to preach and interpret the divine will and purpose). He who prophesies [who is inspired to preach and teach] is greater (more useful and more important) than he who speaks in [unknown] tongues , unless he should interpret [what he says], so that the church may be edified and receive good [from it].

1 Cor 14:22Thus [unknown] tongues are meant for a [supernatural] sign, not for believers but for unbelievers[on the point of believing], while prophecy (inspired preaching and teaching, interpreting the divine will and purpose) is not for unbelievers [on the point of believing] but for believers.

1 Cor 14:14Forif I pray in an [unknown] tongue, my spirit [by the Holy Spirit within me] prays, but my mind is unproductive [it bears no fruit and helps nobody Then what am I to do?I will pray with my spirit [by the Holy Spirit that is within me], butI will also pray [intelligently] with my mind and understanding;I will sing with my spirit [by the Holy Spirit that is within me], but I will sing [intelligently] with my mind and understanding also.AMP

1 Cor 14:14If I pray in tongues, myspirit prays but my mind lies fallow, and all that intelligence is wasted.

15 So what's the solution? The answer is simple enough.Do both. I should be spiritually free and expressive as I pray, but I should also be thoughtful and mindful as I pray.I should sing with my spirit, and sing with my mind.MSG

1 Cor 14:39 So [to conclude], my brethren,earnestly desire and set your hearts on prophesying(on being inspired to preach and teach and to interpret God's will and purpose), and do not forbid or hinder speaking in [unknown] tongues.

Oral Roberts, the high-profile healing evangelist who blazed a trail of miracles across postwar America, tells how interpreting his personal prayer language helped him build a university for the Lord in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

As Oral was walking across a cow pasture one day and praying in tongues, the Lord said to him, Oral, I want you buy the land youre walking on, and build Me a university. He knew it was God speaking to him, but he had no idea how to build something as large as a university. So he walked back and forth across the field praying in tongues and then waited for the interpretation.

Oral spoke out in English what he had been praying in tongues. Thats how he knew what to do and when to do it. Thats how he found out how to raise enough money to get it done. Oral allowed the Spirit of God to interpret back to his mind what he was communicating and talking to God about in tongues.

Today, Oral Roberts University (ORU) has 22 major buildings and is valued at more than $250 million dollars and over 10,000 students have passed through its classrooms.
