THE POWER OF BAPTISM 11-3-23 VIDEO BAPTISM IN US HISTORY 2
Baptism is Gods gift to us. It allows us the way to walk in newness of life. We also receive power from on high to move on in our destiny.
1 Cor 12:13 By means of his one Spirit, we all said good-bye to our partial and piecemeal lives. We each used to independently call our own shots, but then we entered into a large and integrated life in which he has the final say in everything. (This is what we proclaimed in word and action when we were baptized.) Each of us is now a part of his resurrection body, refreshed and sustained at one fountain his Spirit where we all come to drink. The old labels we once used to identify ourselves labels like Jew or Greek, slave or free are no longer useful. We need something larger, more comprehensive. MSG
EPH 4:5 There is only one legitimate Lordship; one faith and one baptism; we are all immersed in the same oneness! MIRROR
Mark 1:4 John the Baptizer appeared in the wild, preaching a baptism of life-change that leads to forgiveness of sins.
5 People thronged to him from Judea and Jerusalem and, as they confessed their sins, were baptized by him in the Jordan River into a changed life.
6 John wore a camel-hair habit, tied at the waist with a leather belt. He ate locusts and wild field honey.
7 As he preached he said, "The real action comes next: The star in this drama, to whom I'm a mere stagehand, will change your life.
8 I'm baptizing you here in the river, turning your old life in for a kingdom life. His baptism a holy baptism by the Holy Spirit will change you from the inside out."
9 At this time, Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.
10 The moment he came out of the water, he saw the sky split open and God's Spirit, looking like a dove, come down on him.
11 Along with the Spirit, a voice: "You are my Son, chosen and marked by my love, pride of my life." MSG
Matt 3:11 "I'm baptizing you here in the river, turning your old life in for a kingdom life. The real action comes next: The main character in this drama compared to him I'm a mere stagehand will ignite the kingdom life within you, a fire within you, the Holy Spirit within you, changing you from the inside out. MSG
Acts 19:3 And he asked, Into what [baptism] then were you baptized? They said, Into John's baptism.
4 And Paul said, John baptized with the baptism of repentance, continually telling the people that they should believe in the One Who was to come after him, that is, in Jesus [having a conviction full of joyful trust that He is Christ, the Messiah, and being obedient to Him]. AMP
Acts 19:3 "How were you baptized, then?" asked Paul. "In John's baptism."
4 "That explains it," said Paul. "John preached a baptism of radical life-change so that people would be ready to receive the One coming after him, who turned out to be Jesus. If you've been baptized in John's baptism, you're ready now for the real thing, for Jesus." MSG
Romans 6:3 Or have you forgotten that all of us who were immersed into union with Jesus, the Anointed One, were immersed into union with his death?
4Sharing in his death by our baptism means that we were co-buried with him, so that when the Father's glory raised Christ from the dead, we were also raised with him. We have been co-resurrected with him so that we could be empowered to walk in the freshness of new life. TPT
ROM 6:3 What are we saying then in baptism, if we are not declaring that we understand our union with Christ in his death?
4 Baptism pictures how we were co-buried together with Christ in his death; then it powerfully illustrates how in Gods mind we were co-raised with Christ into a new lifestyle. MIRROR
COL 2:11 You were in Christ when he died; which means that his death is your true circumcision. This is not hypothetical; this is the real deal. Thus, sins authority in the human body was stripped of its control over you.
12 In the same parallel [your co-circumcision in his death], your co-burial and joint-resurrection is now demonstrated in baptism; your co-inclusion in Christ is what Gods faith knew when he powerfully raised him from the dead. MIRROR
Col 2:11 Entering into this fullness is not something you figure out or achieve. It's not a matter of being circumcised or keeping a long list of laws. No, you're already in insiders not through some secretive initiation rite but rather through what Christ has already gone through for you, destroying the power of sin.
12 If it's an initiation ritual you're after, you've already been through it by submitting to baptism. Going under the water was a burial of your old life; coming up out of it was a resurrection, God raising you from the dead as he did Christ. MSG
1 PET 3:20 Because of their disobedience of long ago. For during the time of Noah God patiently waited while the ark was being prepared, but only a few were brought safely through the floodwaters: a total of eight souls.
21 This was a prophetic picture of the immersion that now saves younot a bathing of the physical body but rather the response of a good conscience before God through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, TPT
1 Peter 3:20 because they wouldn't listen. You know, even though God waited patiently all the days that Noah built his ship, only a few were saved then, eight to be exact saved from the water by the water.
21 The waters of baptism do that for you, not by washing away dirt from your skin but by presenting you through Jesus' resurrection before God with a clear conscience. MSG
1 Peter 3:20-21 the days of God's great patience during the period of the building of the ark, in which eventually only eight souls were saved in the flood. And I cannot help pointing out what a perfect illustration this is of the way you have been admitted to the safety of the Christian "ark" by baptism, which means, of course, far more than the mere washing of a dirty body: it means the ability to face God with a clear conscience. For there is in every true baptism the virtue of Christ's rising from the dead. And he has now entered Heaven and is at God's right hand, with all angels, authorities and powers subservient to him. 1 John 5:6 Jesus the Divine Christ! He experienced a life-giving birth and a death-killing death. Not only birth from the womb, but baptismal birth of his ministry and sacrificial death. And all the while the Spirit is confirming the truth, the reality of God's presence at Jesus' baptism and crucifixion, bringing those occasions alive for us.
7 A triple testimony:
8 the Spirit, the Baptism, the Crucifixion. And the three in perfect agreement. MSG
Matt 3:16 The moment Jesus came up out of the baptismal waters, the skies opened up and he saw God's Spirit it looked like a dove descending and landing on him.
17 And along with the Spirit, a voice: "This is my Son, chosen and marked by my love, delight of my life." MSG
Matthew 3:16 And as Jesus rose up out of the water, the heavenly realm opened up over him and he saw the Holy Spirit descend out of the heavens and rest upon him in the form of a dove.
17Then suddenly the voice of the Father shouted from the sky, saying, This is my Sonthe Beloved! My greatest delight is in him. TPT
LUKE 12: 49 I have come to set the world on fire and how I wish that it were already kindled!
50 I have a baptism to be baptized with; and oh, how intensely I anticipate its mirror-resonance to be fully realized! MIRROR
Luke 12:49 "It is fire that I have come to bring upon the earth - how I could wish it were already ablaze! There is a baptism that I must undergo and how strained I am until it is over! PHILLIPS
Acts 1:5 For John baptized with water, but not many days from now you shall be baptized with (placed in, introduced into) the Holy Spirit. AMP
Acts 2:2 Without warning there was a sound like a strong wind, gale force no one could tell where it came from. It filled the whole building.
3 Then, like a wildfire, the Holy Spirit spread through their ranks,
4 and they started speaking in a number of different languages as the Spirit prompted them. MSG
Acts 2:2 Suddenly they heard the sound of a violent blast of wind rushing into the house from out of the heavenly realm. The roar of the wind was so overpowering it was all anyone could bear!
3Then all at once a pillar of fire appeared before their eyes. It separated into tongues of fire that engulfed each one of them.
4They were all filled and equipped with the Holy Spirit and were inspired to speak in tonguesempowered by the Spirit to speak in languages they had never learned! TPT
1 Cor 10:1 0 Remember our history, friends, and be warned. All our ancestors were led by the providential Cloud and taken miraculously through the Sea.
2 They went through the waters, in a baptism like ours, as Moses led them from enslaving death to salvation life. MSG
1 Cor 10:1 For I should like to remind you, my brothers, that our ancestors all had the experience of being guided by the cloud in the desert and of crossing the sea dry-shod. They were all, so to speak, "baptised" into Moses by these experiences. They all shared the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink (for they drank from the spiritual rock which followed them, and that rock was Christ). PHILLIPS
Gal 3:27 Your baptism in Christ was not just washing you up for a fresh start. It also involved dressing you in an adult faith wardrobe Christ's life, the fulfillment of God's original promise. MSG
John 7:38 He who believes in Me [who cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me] as the Scripture has said, From his innermost being shall flow [continuously] springs and rivers of living water.
39 But He was speaking here of the Spirit, Whom those who believed (trusted, had faith) in Him were afterward to receive. For the [Holy] Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified (raised to honor). AMP
JOHN 7:38 In your realizing that I am what the Scriptures are all about, you will discover uniquely for yourself, face to face with me, that you are what I am all about and rivers of living waters will gush out of your innermost being!
39 Jesus spoke about the Spirit whom those who would believe that he is the conclusion of Scripture were about to grasp since who Jesus was in all of his majestic splendor was not yet fully acknowledged and thus the Spirit was not yet evident. MIRROR
