Heb 4:11 Let us therefore be zealous and exert ourselves and strive diligently to enter that rest [of God, to know and experience it for ourselves], that no one may fall or perish by the same kind of unbelief and disobedience [into which those in the wilderness fell].

STRIVE-to make effort, earnest: do our utmost we should do our best” or “we should try very hard.” Contend for

 

REST-perpetual sabbath “rest” to be enjoyed uninterruptedly by believers in their fellowship with the Father and the Son, in contrast to the weekly Sabbath under the Law. Because this sabbath “rest” is the “rest” of God Himself.  Believers now enter into  divine “rest,” that which they enjoy is involved in an indissoluble relation with God. REST=Take ease, refresh, (give, take) rest keep quiet, of calm and patient expectation, to recover and collect his strength to refresh himself”  –cessation from human labors, refreshment, rest”   here the contrast seems to be to the burdens imposed by the Pharisees. Christ’s “rest” is not a “rest” from work, but in work, “not the rest of inactivity but of the harmonious working of all the faculties and affections– of will, heart Internal rest

 

Matt 11:28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.

29 Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls. AMP

YOKE-rabbis used yoke for school as many pupils find it now a yoke. Jesus offers refreshment  in his school and promises to make the burden light

 

Ex 33:14 And the Lord said, My Presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest.  AMP

Not entering rest

John 3:18  He who believes in Him [who clings to, trusts in, relies on Him] is not judged [he who trusts in Him never comes up for judgment; for him there is no rejection, no condemnation — he incurs no damnation]; but he who does not believe (cleave to, rely on, trust in Him) is judged already [he has already been convicted and has already received his sentence] because he has not believed in and trusted in the name of the only begotten Son of God. [He is condemned for refusing to let his trust rest in Christ’s name.]  AMP

 

Isa 30:15 For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: In returning [to Me] and resting [in Me] you shall be saved; in quietness and in [trusting] confidence shall be your strength. But you would not,  AMP

Eph 2:15 By abolishing in His [own crucified] flesh the enmity [caused by] the Law with its decrees and ordinances [which He annulled]; that He from the two might create in Himself one new man [one new quality of humanity out of the two], so making peace. AMP

13 Do not continue offering or yielding your bodily members [and faculties] to sin as instruments (tools) of wickedness. But offer and yield yourselves to God as though you have been raised from the dead to [perpetual] life, and your bodily members [and faculties] to God, presenting them as implements of righteousness.

14 For sin shall not [any longer] exert dominion over you, since now you are not under Law [as slaves], but under grace [as subjects of God’s favor and mercy].  AMP

Rom 6-7 Could it be any clearer? Our old way of life was nailed to the Cross with Christ, a decisive end to that sin-miserable life — no longer at sin’s every beck and call! What we believe is this:

8 If we get included in Christ’s sin-conquering death, we also get included in his life-saving resurrection.

9 We know that when Jesus was raised from the dead it was a signal of the end of death-as-the-end. Never again will death have the last word.

10 When Jesus died, he took sin down with him, but alive he brings God down to us.

11 From now on, think of it this way: Sin speaks a dead language that means nothing to you; God speaks your mother tongue, and you hang on every word. You are dead to sin and alive to God. That’s what Jesus did.

12 That means you must not give sin a vote in the way you conduct your lives. Don’t give it the time of day.

13 Don’t even run little errands that are connected with that old way of life. Throw yourselves wholeheartedly and full-time — remember, you’ve been raised from the dead! — into God’s way of doing things.

14 Sin can’t tell you how to live. After all, you’re not living under that old tyranny any longer. You’re living in the freedom of God. MSG ↕↕↕

ALTAR

1 Peter 2:24  He personally bore our sins in His [own] body on the tree [as on an altar and offered Himself on it], that we might die (cease to exist) to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed. AMP

1 Peter 2:24He used his servant body to carry our sins to the Cross  so we could be rid of sin, free to live the right way. His wounds became your healing.

 

Heb 13:10The altar from which God gives us the gift of himself is not for exploitation by insiders who grab and loot.

11 In the old system, the animals are killed and the bodies disposed of outside the camp. The blood is then brought inside to the altar as a sacrifice for sin.

12 It’s the same with Jesus. He was crucified outside the city gates — that is where he poured out the sacrificial blood that was brought to God’s altar to cleanse his people. MSG

 

Gal 3:13  Christ redeemed us from that self-defeating, cursed life by absorbing it completely into himself. Do you remember the Scripture that says, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”? That is what happened when Jesus was nailed to the Cross: He became a curse, and at the same time dissolved the curse .MSG  BECAME SIN

 

Heb 10:10  And in accordance with this will [of God], we have been made holy (consecrated and sanctified) through the offering made once for all of the body of Jesus Christ (the Anointed One).  

 

Eph 2:16  Christ brought us together through his death on the Cross. The Cross got us to embrace, and that was the end of the hostility.

17 Christ came and preached peace to you outsiders and peace to us insiders.

18 He treated us as equals, and so made us equals. Through him we both share the same Spirit and have equal access to the Father.

19 That’s plain enough, isn’t it? You’re no longer wandering exiles. This kingdom of faith is now your home country. You’re no longer strangers or outsiders. You belong here, with as much right to the name Christian as anyone. God is building a home. He’s using us all — irrespective of how we got here — in what he is building.  MSG

 

Rom 5:17If death got the upper hand through one man’s wrongdoing, can you imagine the breathtaking recovery life makes, sovereign life, in those who grasp with both hands this wildly extravagant life-gift, this grand setting-everything-right, that the one man Jesus Christ provides?

18 Here it is in a nutshell: Just as one person did it wrong and got us in all this trouble with sin and death, another person did it right and got us out of it. But more than just getting us out of trouble, he got us into life!
